New Music Studio Opens for At-Risk Youth

Gas South and Covenant House Create Space for Music Therapy

ATLANTA, Ga. (Feb. 26, 2025) - Atlanta youth now have a new space to create, heal, and connect through music with the opening of a music therapy studio at Covenant House Georgia (CHGA) fueled by Gas South.

CHGA’s new Notes for Notes studio provides youth 15 and older who are facing homelessness or survived trafficking with access to music therapy sessions twice a week, offering them a creative outlet. The space was made possible through a gift from Gas South and their employees, who volunteered hours in the construction process.

“We’re all about giving back in ways that make a real difference, and this studio is exactly that,” said Jenni Hawkins, VP of Customer Care at Gas South and CHGA board member. “Music has a way of bringing people together and helping them through tough times. Seeing these teens get the chance to create and have fun in this space is incredible, and we’re so proud to be part of it.”

Special performances from local artist-on-the-rise Josh Waters and several CHGA youth officially opened the space on Feb. 26. The event brought together community leaders, musicians, and supporters to celebrate its impact – including Grammy-winning producer Jeremiah Adkins, who spoke about the transformative power of music therapy.

Research shows that music therapy can reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and build self-confidence – critical benefits for youth overcoming difficult circumstances. For this reason, CHGA sought out nonprofit Notes for Notes to provide access to music instruments and recording studio environments, allowing music to become a profoundly positive influence in their lives.

“We hope that this studio will become a safe haven where young people can heal, express themselves, and find their voice,” said Dr. Alie Redd, Chief Executive Officer at CHGA.

Gas South employees celebrated the transformation of the space, enjoyed performances and received tours of the studio from youth who use it weekly.
