Celebrating National Intern Day 2024

7/25/2024

July 25 is National Intern Day, and we’re celebrating the occasion this year with a spotlight on three of our very own hardworking and talented interns. At Gas South, we’re always proud to support the personal and professional growth of such young minds, and we’re thankful for the energy, innovation and fresh perspectives they bring to us in return.

Aida G.

Title: Community Affairs Intern

School: University of Florida

Major/Graduation Year: Business Management, May 2024

How did you hear about Gas South and what made you want to intern here?

I learned about Gas South through a job posting. After reading into the company, I wanted to intern here for two reasons: 1.) The internship position was in Community Affairs, and that aligned with my career aspirations. And 2.) Gas South's values and purpose statement also stood out to me as it was refreshing to see a large company serve others and uplift their community. It was something I wanted to be a part of.

What do you like best about interning at Gas South? Have there been any challenges?

I really like Gas South's work environment. I'm an introvert, so it was a little intimidating working in a new office. That challenge was quickly overcome because so many of the employees here are kind and super helpful.

How have you grown through this internship?

It’s strengthened my skills in communication, event management and networking. My tasks and projects, whether big or small, have pushed me out of my comfort zone, which has allowed me to grow in both my professional and personal life. Without a doubt, I know my time at Gas South has set me up for success at my next job.

What do you see yourself doing professionally now that you’ve recently graduated?

I hope to secure a full-time position with a company that’s genuine when it comes to giving back and supporting corporate social responsibility. More specifically, I would like to work in the HR or Community Affairs field.

When you’re not interning, what do you do for fun?

I’m a homebody, so I like to relax and unwind at home. Other times, I'll go to the movie theaters, farmers markets, thrifting or cafes. I also love traveling!

Intern Title: Sales Channel Summer Intern

School: Georgia College & State University

Major/Graduation Year: B.S. In Economics, May 2024

How did you hear about Gas South and what made you want to intern here?

As a huge baseball fan, I saw the Gas South logo at just about every Braves game I attended. When I saw the application online, it immediately caught my eye because I was already aware of Gas South's great reputation and strong brand image.

What do you like best about interning at Gas South? Have there been any challenges?

The company culture is my favorite part about interning here. Every employee, regardless of the department, has been very welcoming, and I’m constantly offered assistance and advice. Acclimating to life after college has been challenging in some ways, but the employees here have been extremely welcoming and helpful.

How have you grown through this internship?

I’ve learned several skills that have helped me tremendously. I feel that I’m much more prepared than I was several months ago to fulfill my obligations with professionalism and efficiency.

What do you see yourself doing professionally now that you’ve recently graduated?

I hope to be working within this industry for years to come.

When you’re not interning, what do you do for fun?

I love to golf, go to baseball games and spend time with friends.

Intern Title: Financial Analyst Intern

School: Georgia State University

Major/Graduation Year: M.S. in Finance, December 2024

How did you hear about Gas South and what made you want to intern here?

I grew up close to Infinite Energy Center, which later became Gas South District, so I was familiar with the Gas South name. When I began my search for summer internships, I discovered the Financial Analyst Intern position here, which seemed to align with my background and career goals. Further online research revealed a company with a great culture that prioritizes both individual and company growth—a crucial factor for me in choosing a workplace. Additionally, speaking with former Gas South employees confirmed the presence of a strong mentorship program, which has indeed proven to be true during my time here so far.

What do you like best about interning at Gas South? Have there been any challenges?

My favorite aspect of interning here so far is the people I work with. Everyone I've met here is eager to answer any questions, no matter how big or small. I particularly enjoy 'Together Tuesdays’, when everyone gathers in the office for a catered lunch. It's been a great opportunity to connect with colleagues on a more personal level. I've also appreciated the challenge of learning new skills in my role, even though some seemed intimidating initially. I quickly discovered a supportive community willing to help whenever I faced difficulties. What could have been a tough challenge has turned into a fun learning experience that’s significantly improved my professional skills.

Tell us about some of those new skills. How have you grown through this internship?

I’ve been able to expand my technical skillset in areas that will be essential to success in finance. I’ve been working frequently with SQL, Power BI, Excel, etc., many of which were new to me at the beginning of the summer. I’m grateful to have had the exposure to these platforms and to have had amazing mentors who are committed to my growth. Additionally, I’ve really been able to practice my communication skills here at Gas South and working across various teams and functions.

What do you see yourself doing professionally after graduation?

I plan to continue my career in corporate finance. My summer internship has shown me the value of working with large datasets to solve problems. I aim to work in a position that allows me to further hone my financial analytic skills.

When you’re not interning or busy with your studies, what do you do for fun?

I’m most likely taking a Pilates class, cooking for friends and family or reading a good book. I really enjoy hosting dinner parties for my friends, so I’ve been spending a lot of time recently shopping for cute tableware and trying new recipes.
