ATLANTA, Ga. (August 27, 2024) – Shepherd Center celebrated the expansion of its campus and services with the support of natural gas provider Gas South.
Gas South invested $300k in the development of Gas South Recreation Room for Adolescents at the Arthur M. Blank Family Residence, which will double Shepherd Center’s family housing capacity. This recreation room will be a place where patients can relax and connect with one another while on similar care journeys.
“Serving others and doing what’s right are two of Gas South’s values and we feel like this expansion for Shepherd Center accomplishes both by serving families that are in a vulnerable and difficult phase of life,” said Greg Dunavant, VP of customer operations at Gas South. “Being able to assist in the care of these patients and families is an honor for Gas South.”
Gas South’s gift also funds ongoing operations for Shepherd Center’s adolescent spinal cord injury rehabilitation program. This includes community outings, an on-staff teacher to help with homework/tutoring while the youth are out of school, and an innovative school-reintegration program.
“Providing kids and teens with educational and social support to navigate their new normal after a spinal cord injury is so important for their well-being,” said Carley Stephens, Gas South’s manager of community affairs. “It’s so exciting to see this expansion happen and be a part of The Arthur M. Blank Family Residence opening.” The
Arthur M. Blank Family Residences is now open at 2020 Peachtree Rd NW, Atlanta GA 30309 to provide housing for patient families of the Shepherd Center.
