Gas South Partner Spotlight: Covenant House Georgia
11/08/2024
Homelessness is an ever-growing challenge, whether we look at it from a state level, nationally or across the world. In recent years in the U.S., rates have been on the rise since 2017, with the sharpest upturn happening between 2022 and 2023—up by more than 12%. In Georgia, those numbers translate to more than 10,000 people without homes, according to the Georgia Alliance to End Homelessness. And when we look at children here who experience homelessness at least once in a given year, that number climbs to an astonishing 45,500.
These are children who get sick more often. They struggle more to find warm shelter or a hot meal. And they have a harder time dealing with school, often battling overwhelming emotional and psychological stress. Addressing these issues requires support from governments, charity groups, philanthropic companies and everyday people, all willing to donate time and money.
Gas South is one of those groups, and we’re honored to partner with others that focus their efforts on improving the lives of children in our communities. Each year, we give back 5% of profits to help support children in need, and that’s meant millions of dollars each year to address childhood basic needs, education and health.
One partner we’re proud to work with on ending childhood homelessness is Covenant House Georgia. Located in Atlanta, the organization opened its doors to the public in 2000 and has since helped more than 19,000 youth dealing with homelessness or trying to escape trafficking.
Last year, Gas South was pleased to name Covenant House Georgia as one of our 10 Fuel For Good Allies—sharing in an overall donation of $3.7 million as part of our ongoing effort to Be A Fuel For Good®.
“Gas South’s partnership by way of volunteerism, leadership, grant awards and sponsorship is world-class support that means everything to Covenant House Georgia,” said the nonprofit’s CEO Dr. Alieizoria Redd. “Because of you, we unlock greater opportunities for youth, elevating their lives to new heights. We’re excited about and very appreciative of our collaboration to further our mission. We’re stronger together in guiding youths’ paths to self-sufficiency.”
If you’re a customer with Gas South, you’re automatically part of our efforts to support Covenant House Georgia, as well as each organization we partner with. But anyone can give back to this important nonprofit, and we encourage you to do so—learn more about how you can give back.
